Hair chalk: this spring’s hottest trend
If there’s one thing we love here at Fashion & Style Directory, it’s the discovery of a new trend that’s fun, fresh and exciting. Something that everyone can have a go at – whether you’re a fresh-faced teen with a crisp £5 note in your pocket, or an 80-something granny who doesn’t play by the rules. Hello hair chalk. Haven’t heard of it? Don’t fear, here’s the low down…
Hair chalk is the latest craze that’s hitting the tresses of girls (and the odd guy too) up and down the country. It’s a pocket-money-friendly trend because hair chalks can be snapped up for anything upwards of a couple of quid. Choose your favourite colour, or plump for a hair chalk set that covers the whole rainbow spectrum. Either way, it’s not going to break the bank.
How to apply
Hair chalk is a temporary way to add a blast of colour to your hair and if you don’t like the result, simply wash it off. To apply your hair chalk, all you need to do is wet the section of hair you want to chalk, then sweep your hair chalk in a downwards motion over the strands. You can cover a section that’s anything from 1cm wide to 5cm wide simply by turning your hair chalk on its side to cover a larger area.
Once the colour is on the hair, you’ll need to either use a hairdryer to dry the hair, or leave it to air dry to make sure as much of the hair chalk as possible is left on. Next up, use hair straighteners to seal in the colour by dragging down the hair, or curling to give your hair chalk section a wave. Finally spritz with hair spray and you’re done.
Go wild and colour your hair in a whole host of shades, or keep things a little subtle by sticking to one colour at a time. Either way, the results are pretty much endless as you’re in control as to how wild you’re prepared to go. Hair chalk is great for a special occasion, or just for no other reason than you fancy a bit of fun.
Hair chalk is big news right now and we have a sneaking suspicion it’s going to stay that way. If there’s one trend we reckon you’ll be seeing at every summer festival this year, it’s the hair chalk trend. So, start experimenting with your look now and be master of the hair chalk by the time summer rolls round. When it costs less than a fiver to give this trend a go, there’s no reason not to get creative!
Thank you to LA-based blogger and self-styled #HashtagQueen Ashley Dingess (@ashleyhollabakk on Twitter) for letting us use the picture of her own hair chalk experiments – we think it looks amazing!

[…] Go all out with a permanent hair dye (no corpse bride is complete without a daring purple), or cheat with hair chalks that last only as long as you want them to. Now backcomb ‘til your heart’s content. Oh wait, […]
