Halloween fashion: it’s time to get freaky
“You look like death.” When it comes to Halloween fashion, there is no higher compliment. So ditch that bronzer, leave ‘this season’s must-have jacket’ at home, and embrace everything ghoulish and ghostly in celebration of the 31st October. It’s time to get trick or treating!
Hair
Crazy hair colour is having a moment right now, so getting hold of some seriously wild shades is a cinch. Go all out with a permanent hair dye (no corpse bride is complete without a daring purple), or cheat with hair chalks that last only as long as you want them to. Now backcomb ‘til your heart’s content. Oh wait, it’s Halloween – you don’t have a heart.
Eyes
If there’s one look we’re channelling this Halloween, it’s the zombie look. That’s because with just a few simple tweaks you can turn anyone into a convincing zombie. To achieve credible zombie status you’ll need one major element: crazy contact lenses. Glow in the dark, cat’s eyes, dragon – you name it, you’ll find it on a contact lens. They’re freaky and they’ll definitely scare your granny.
Costumes
Let’s get this straight, Halloween is not a time for ‘sexy’. No sexy maid outfits, no sexy witches, no sexy anything – please! Halloween fashion is about getting out of your box, and going a little bit crazy in the clothing stakes. So, go dressed as a pumpkin (you can eat what you like for weeks beforehand and no one’ll know), Slimer (of course you want to paint yourself green), or, erm, a bat (one with wings, not one that hits a ball).
Make-up
Glitter. Black lipstick. Face paints. Eye tattoos. Yes you heard us… eye tattoos. Or, if you’re a dab hand with a liquid eyeliner – draw your own. One thing’s for sure, Halloween fashion is all about getting creative (and not worrying too much if you don’t quite pull the look off).
Accessories
You can never go wrong with a) wigs, b) stripy tights, and c) bags shaped as coffins at Halloween. Who cares if you don’t stick to one particular theme? Does it really matter if your scarlet nail polish doesn’t quite match the shade of your velvet choker (top fashion points if you’ve already got a choker BTW)? No it does not.
This Halloween, be ghoulish, be ghostly, but above all be ghastly and love every minute of it. Or, alternatively, stay in, dim the lights to avoid unwanted trick or treaters, and watch Gardeners’ World instead. Your choice.
