Spotted: when to wear hot new accessories trends

For spring/summer 2016, jewellery is big news. Take a flick through the glossy mags, switch on the TV, or just check out what people are wearing on the high street… you’ll soon see that accessories are everywhere right now.
Think big stackable bangles as seen on Alesha Dixon on Britain’s Got Talent, ’90s-style chokers as spotted on the likes of Rihanna and Cara Delevingne, and slender little arm cuffs as worn by Selena Gomez. But when’s a gal to wear them? If you’re not the judge on the UK’s biggest talent show, and there are no red carpet events lined up in your diary, don’t stress – you can still weave the latest jewellery and accessories trends into your day…
The first date
You’ve got your make-up sorted and you’ve squeezed yourself into your hottest outfit ever. Don’t forget the piece that can link it altogether – the accessory.
Sterling silver bangles make an excellent choice for date night jewellery. Not only do they help elevate your outfit to awesome, but if you’re feeling a little on edge, fiddling with your jewellery can keep your hands busy too.
Go for the ’90s look and try accessorising with a cute torque bracelet. Keep it simple with a solo piece, or make a statement and go for two doubled up or worn one on each wrist.
The exam
Whether you’ve been holed up in your bedroom swatting for weeks on end, or you’re going for the ‘winging it’ option, a bit of ‘lucky charm’ jewellery won’t ever go amiss.
A long-length necklace stowed away under your shirt and kept close to your heart could help give you that little confidence boost when faced with those tricky questions. And even if you don’t get top marks in the exam, you’ll still be scoring high in the style stakes – necklaces this season are long, layered, and doubled up.
The occasion
Weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries – whatever it is you’re celebrating, do it in style with some of 2016’s best jewellery trends.
Style up a wedding dress with a pair of chic drop earrings, or finish off your wrist with awesome arm candy bangles. If you fancy really standing out, channel the mismatched look and try solo earrings, or chunky, industrial necklaces and bracelets set against floaty, summery fabrics.
The night out
You’re out with the girls and you want all eyes on you – time for a dramatic look. For this, we loved the look Alesha Dixon showcased on BGT – a forearm layered with bangles and cuffs.
The result was fierce, and a little bit warrior princess. Go for different textures for added interest.
The job interview
Eeek! You’ve secured an interview for the job of your dreams. Time for jewellery that ‘subtly’ screams how ruddy marvellous, in control, and cool-as-a-cucumber you really are. But is there such a piece that can do all this?! Of course there is! It’s your piece of jewellery that’s unique to you.
A special ring your mum bought you for your 16th birthday, a pair of earrings your husband splashed out for to mark an anniversary, a bracelet you bought for yourself as a well-deserved treat.
Whatever it is, make sure it’s with you when you need to pull out all the stops – it’s little pieces like these that can help give you courage and strength when you need it most.
