Best wellies for winter walks: our top picks from pocket-friendly to posh

As the chillier and wetter weather starts to set in, it’s a great opportunity to dig out the winter wardrobe and head outside to enjoy the colours, sounds and smells of autumn and winter, particularly if you’re lucky enough to have some gorgeous country walks nearby.
Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself and the family to a snazzy new pair of cosy wellies!
Here are some top picks available this season.
For women
We might not have been able to stand in muddy fields watching fireworks this year, but if you want to add a touch of sparkle to your autumn and winter walks, these eye-catching, glittery wellies from Shoe Zone are a bargain at just £14.99.

Also from Shoe Zone, dog lovers would be barking mad not to add these Cotswold Chelsea wellies to their winter wardrobe. Not only do they feature cute cartoon drawings of dachshunds, Dalmatians and pugs, but they also come in a gorgeous lilac, adding a splash of colour to dreary days.
Perfect for walks or simply slipping on to pop into the garden, at £29.99 (reduced from the RRP of £54.99), they’re a real bargain.

These Molly mid-height printed wellies from Joules might not be the cheapest winter boots available, coming in at £44.95, but they certainly look the part. Made from hard-wearing natural rubber and with an adjustable side buckle, they are comfy and practical too.
Great for pairing with jeans or something a little more suitable for muddy walks, these wellies will ensure you look stylish regardless.

At £80, these Tommy Hilfiger Oxley ankle wellies, available from Next, are a little pricey, but don’t they look fabulous! With a distinctive metal buckle and their Chelsea boot design, they have a real premium look and feel. If you know you’re going to get good wear out of them over the winter months, it could be worth splashing out and treating yourself.

For men
These Insulated Play Boots from Hunter are perfect for when the temperature really drops in the depths of winter, as they can be worn in conditions as low as -5 degrees. They are also 100% waterproof and, with the bright orange lining contrasting with the stylish grey outer, they look great too.
At £80 for a short boot, they’re a little on the expensive side, but Hunter offers excellent quality, so they’ll last you year after year.

Typically, men don’t get a particularly interesting choice when it comes to wellies. So, when we saw these Evercreatures boots, we jumped at the chance to include them in our list. Camouflage designs might be a little 1990s, but we reckon that now is as good a time as any to rock the retro (especially when options are limited!).
At £45, they’re not the cheapest but handy if you can’t justify splashing out on a pair of Hunters or Barbours.

For little feet
Sainsbury’s brand, Tu Clothing, currently has a great range of kids’ wellies available at pocket-friendly prices. Harry Potter and Peppa Pig are just two options little ones will love splashing around in.
Their Harry Potter wellies, featuring everyone’s favourite snowy owl Hedwig, can be snapped up from just £3.50, while their Peppa Pig boots start from £11. Be quick though, their online stock is selling fast.

Older kids might be less taken with Peppa Pig wellies, but they’re sure to love these cool Nessie ones from Hunter. With a soft cotton lining and extra grip, they not only look fab but are sure to be comfy and practical for little adventurers too.
At £40, kids will need to get plenty of wear out of them, but they’re so cool, they won’t want to take them off anyway!
