Kirsten Nunez’s ‘Studs and Pearls’ celebrates the “personalising power” of DIY fashion!
As we wrote last month in our ‘budget versus blow out’ blog, customising a basic top is the way to go if you want to make a creative splash without splashing the cash.
So, we were thrilled to come across ‘Studs and Pearls’, the stylish new DIY fashion book by New York-born craft blogger Kirsten Nunez, which is all about “the personalising power of DIY and the creative mind.”
Published by Laurence King, the book taps into a growing appetite for folks to be bold, individual and economical in what they wear, expressing their personality through fashion – which is just the way it should be, we reckon.
According to the book’s blurb, “the concept of DIY has transformed consumer culture, most notably in the fashion industry. Fuelled by the current state of the economy, fashion lovers have turned to DIY projects for an inexpensive, personalised means of dressing themselves. The process of creating and altering clothing and accessories highlights the artistic expression of fashion, as opposed to its monetary value.” You certainly can’t argue with any of that.
Where ‘Studs and Pearls’ comes in is by featuring 30 tutorials for customised clothing, accessories, jewellery and shoes, each one accompanied with clear step-by-step instructions and detailed photographs – perfect if, like us, you have the ideas but not necessarily the confidence to start attacking your outfits with a needle and thread.
It’s all the better then that the featured projects are easy to make (no specialist sewing skills required – yay!), with lots of pictures showing how you can vary each tutorial to truly personalise your creations. In total, ‘Studs and Pearls’ features over 120 ideas, so whatever you want to achieve – and however ambitious you want to be in putting your own stamp on something – Kirsten’s book is bound to have some projects that will appeal.
You can find more details about the book below, and don’t forget to check out Kirsten’s blog, at www.studs-and-pearls.com, too – it’s great, and full of posts about all Kirsten’s passions, including food, health, lifestyle, home decor, art and beauty, as well as plenty of DIY fashion tutorials, of course!
