Update last year’s wardrobe with spring’s must-have accessories
A few days ago much of the UK basked in sunshine, and wasn’t it a relief? Temperatures soared, ice creams were licked, and our collective vitamin D levels were raised. Last year’s strappy maxi dresses, embellished sandals, and sunglasses were all dug out of the cupboard and flung on in relief that actually – finally – winter may just about be over. So, with the darkest days behind us it’s time to take a look at spring’s must-have accessories – they’re the perfect way to liven up your look without spending a small fortune.
Statement sunglasses
Without a prescription, there’s nothing that can boost your mood better than a pair of eye-catching sunglasses. Whether it’s 1950s cat’s eye, round like those favoured by John Lennon, or a crazy oversized pair à la Jackie O, sunglasses add oomph to any outfit. For maximum impact and happiness factor, this season, ditch the black and go for peach tones or pure brilliant white.
Jewellery
If it’s big and bold, it’s beautiful. Statement jewellery was all over the catwalk at Spring 2014 Fashion Week, so act now to keep at the head of the trend. Everything from necklaces with an Aztec influence to earrings that may take a while to figure out how to thread, cuff, and attach them, are going to be big news this season. Plus, big bright jewels (costume jewels obvs) will be everywhere – and will perk up any outfit however many times you’ve worn it.
Hair
Sad news – the 1950s-style tied headbands have lost their space at the top of the hair accessories charts… according to fashionistas, this spring is all about the turban. While the look might be a bit difficult to master, it’s easy to have a play around at home with your scarf collection before splashing out on anything new. One thing’s for sure, if you’re going to succeed with this style, you’ll need attitude and lots of it.
Bling is still in
The fashion pack went crazy for jewel-encrusted this and that last season, and it’s good news if you’ve already embraced the look, because this trend is still in. Sandals, ballet pumps and boots should be embellished with a bit of sparkle, and bags too deserve some serious shine. Buy ready-adorned, or indulge your crafty side with a bit of DIY fashion action. Just don’t go too OTT as you could run the risk of looking like the tin man.
The stunning statement necklaces pictured are from the new Dirty Ruby range, available exclusively at Argento.
