How to recreate Kate Moss’ effortless dog-walker chic

You have to admire Kate Moss. She’s had a modelling career lasting a quarter of century, has designed two successful fashion collections for Topshop, and earns a reported $7m a year. Oh, and she looks absolutely terrific for 40, exuding effortless chic even when just out walking her dog, Archie, with her husband, Jamie Hince.

Kate has recently been spotted out in superskinny-fit Replay Luz Jeans – which you can pick up for £125 at House of Fraser (or £100 in the latest Brand Event, which ends tomorrow) – and with a bit of creativity and detective work it’s easy to recreate her entire autumnal dog-walker look.

Kate’s Replay jeans look great paired with an oversized polo neck, and we like this limited edition one with pretty cable detail from House of Fraser’s W Collection, which is usually £45 but can be snapped up for a very appealing £31.50 in the current Brand Event.

You’ll also need some eyecatching but robust footwear to finish things off, such as these fabulous Jannyce heeled ankle boots from Steve Madden (usually £110; currently £88). After all, while taking your own version of Kate Moss’ Archie for a walk the chances are you’ll need to tramp through mushy leaves – and potentially worse – at the same time as oozing autumnal glam.

You don’t need to remind us that it’s nearly December (and virtually dark at three o’clock), but since when has lack of sun – or even not being outdoors – been a valid reason for not sporting the biggest sunglasses you can find? To pull off that air of mystery and aloofness that models have down to a tee, we suggest some shades that are big, bold and a bit retro, like these gorgeous (though admittedly expensive) Havana ones from D&G (£156).

And finally, we recognise that every woman – and many men, for that matter – need a suitable bag, if only to stow away an umbrella for the typical British weather, and a roll of necessaries should Archie need to be scooped at some point along the walk. This Lewes studded shoulder bag from French Connection (£160) badges itself as offering “ready-to-wear style on the go” – which sounds the perfect combination to us – and is roomy enough to accommodate whatever you can imagine.

If you don’t mind, we’ll start with a scarf, gloves and woolly hat – just in case.
