Pimp up last year’s party dress with this season’s accessories
You’ve got a stash load of glittery invitations pinned to your notice board (haven’t we all dahling?!), and approximately £5.26 in your purse. We know the feeling. But don’t rip those invites up and use them as hamster bedding just yet… Cinderella shall go to the ball – just wearing last year’s dress with this season’s accessories.
Believe us, it’s a lot more glam than you think (and that lovely warm glow you’ll be sporting thanks to saving all that cash will be priceless). It’s access all, you guessed it, accessories…
1. Collar Time
Get crafty with felt, beads, sequins, and whatever you can lay your hands on and create your ultimate party collar. It will instantly transform a ‘play-it-safe’ LBD into a statement outfit.
Make or buy collars in different styles and you’ll have a costume change in an instant. We love cute and demure Peter Pan collars, edgy geometric-patterned collars, and beaded collars that will definitely turn heads.
2. Tights Please
No one will be bothered about your slightly lacklustre dress when they set eyes on legs dressed up to the nines. We’re talking patterned, coloured, and – seeing as it’s Christmas – glittered tights aplenty.
They’re perfect for perking up your wardrobe and cost a smidgen of your average party dress.
3. Belt It
Waist belts, hip belts, skinny belts, wide belts – whatever you plump for it’s certainly going to add a little va va voom.
Scour your belt collection for a plain jane and unleash your inner magpie by glue gunning all manner of sparkly things to it. If you’re not so confident with your crafting skills, buy one. Keep it classy with belts with chains or have some fun with diamante-encrusted belts. The key here though is sparkle or material that will catch the light and make your party dress sing.
4. Bag Lady
No one can deny that a bag can make or break an outfit, and a bag that stands out is going to take all the limelight.
Have fun with cartoon-style clutch bags, go full on mirror-ball with heaps of glitter, or keep it classy with expensive-looking grab bags.
5. Heads Up
Turn heads with out-of-this-world headwear that is fun, fresh, and the ideal decoy tactic for a less-than-perfect dress.
Try big, bold flower headbands, have a go with veils, or work a jauntily-angled mini hat. A great piece of headwear will put you in the mood for partying. Fact.
