Spring makeup must-tries…
Temperatures are up, tights are off, and sunglasses are firmly planted on our faces – the UK has survived the bleakest months of the year, and now it’s basking in springtime.
To celebrate a spanking new season we’re embracing fresh new spring makeup trends. So here’s how to nail our favourites…
80s colour
From subtle shades of rainbow pastels on your eyelids to unexpected pops of neon yellow on your earlobes (yes, you did read that right), the decade that gave us Mr Motivator, Timmy Mallett and instant mashed potato is having a moment in the makeup world.
We love this eyeshadow palette by Urban Decay (£43, pictured) – for tips on how to apply, check out this post from blogger Holly. We like lighter tones at the inner corners and working up to brighter shades as we move outwards across the lid.
Slept-in eyes
Not wanting to get too Dreamworks Trolls, we’re balancing out the rainbow-eye look with an all-time classic – the smudgy eye!
Yes, the look that we could never quite let go of is well and truly back on the spring makeup radar. Get hold of an eye smudger brush like this one for £8 by No7 at Boots, and blend natural, earthy brown shadows with a blurred lick of kohl eyeliner. Think yesterday’s makeup and you’ll have nailed it.
Dewy skin
Out with the chapped, dry skin of winter and in with the fresh dewy look of youth. We can’t guarantee that this spring makeup trend will get you ID’ed in Tesco again, but it’s sure to give you a healthy ‘I’ve just slept for 8 hours solid’ glow.
Products to try are e.l.f Studio Highlighting Dewy Drops for a teeny £5, or if you fancy splurging and want something with a little added coverage, try Clinique’s Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator (RRP £23).
If money’s super tight, fear not – dig out your trusty pot of Vaseline, and dab the tiniest bit onto your eyelids for a glossy, dewy look that will cost you pennies.
Knock-out nails
Spring’s a great time to have fun with your nails. This season, the fashion cats are lusting after super-modern geo designs in awesome colour combos. Or if that’s not your scene, keep your look ultra-sleek with metallics – bronze-coloured tips paired with neutral French polish pink is a winner, or simply go for an all-over slick of gunmetal silver.
For something a little more spring-worthy, go your own way with nail wraps from Jamberry. We love their gorgeous floral nail wraps that are easy to apply and just as simple to remove. Plus, you can have fun mixing and matching loads of different designs to give your nails a look all of their own.
What do you think of our new spring looks? Will you be trying some out yourself or sticking to your trusted old staples? It can feel weird trying new makeup trends out, but there’s no denying having a play with a new look can help you feel rejuvenated, even if you haven’t had time for some serious self-TLC for months.
