Source and create a retro wardrobe with ‘Style Me Vintage: Clothes’
From pre-loved satchels to vintage fairs, it’s never been so cool to have a wardrobe filled with retro glamour and individual style.
If, like many of us, you have the urge to embrace your vintage side but lack the courage to do anything about it, Naomi Thompson’s ‘Style Me Vintage: Clothes’ – subtitled ‘A Guide to Sourcing and Creating Retro Looks’ – is a jolly good place to start.
Published a couple of years ago, it’s part of the popular ‘Style Me Vintage’ series from Pavilion Books, which already embraces books on make-up, weddings, hair and tea parties as well as clothes. Another one from Naomi – on the topic of vintage accessories – is due for release in September.
In the meantime, ‘Style Me Vintage: Clothes’ is packed with useful tips on how to find unique, one-off items that not only fit your budget, but will also look fabulous and retain their value.
So, you can learn how to determine which era suits your shape; how to build a retro look from the base up; and how to mix and match old and new, making retro styles work with modern accessories.
It’s a beautiful book to look at as well – we love the pretty and elegant hardback cover, and the gorgeous photographs throughout its 100+ pages, showing classic looks from the 1920s through to the 1980s (we remember the latter well).
Naomi knows her stuff, too – a stylist and personal shopper who specialises in vintage fashion, she’s popped up in the pages of top magazines and newspapers such as Vogue, Sunday Times Style, The Telegraph and Cosmopolitan.
So, whether you’re a lady looking to overhaul your look, go for complete vintage glam, or just introduce a few key vintage pieces into your day-to-day wardrobe, ‘Style Me Vintage: Clothes’ will get you started in no time – and keep you nicely occupied until its ‘Accessories’ sequel comes out in three months’ time!
