Wedding guest style and how to stay looking gorgeous
You’ve received the invite, splashed out on the present, now there’s just one thing left to sort – your outfit.
Yes, it may be the bride’s day, but who doesn’t want to look a tiny bit fabulous turning up at the do? Here are our picks of the best wedding outfits available right now, plus we’ve got some handy tips on how to ensure you stay looking great all day and night long.
Wedding style
Florals are in (as ever on the wedding clothing scene), graphic mirror prints are on the up, and trouser suits are back (think Posh Spice circa 1996 – but add a smile).
The key to getting your look right is to suss out how the wedding you’re attending is going to pan out. Think about weather, location, and what’s expected – busting your best shapes in skyscraper heels and a pencil skirt isn’t always the way to go. For a classic wedding, try something like this ASOS twist-front dress with metallic belt (£55; only size 18 left) – super chic, neat, and perfect for even the classiest of weddings.
Meanwhile, the floral print shutter dress (£65 from M&Co; sizes 8 to 18) makes a great option for Mothers of the Bride. We love the bold floral pattern which ties in effortlessly with the delicate petal-like layers of the dress. It’s a flattering knee-length too.
If you’ve blown your budget on the wedding present, check out this mint and ivory taped pencil dress by Dorothy Perkins (currently in stock in sizes 14, 16, 18 and 22). It’s a steal at £15 – we know – what?! Snap it up and you’ll have an occasion dress that you’ll turn to again and again.
If you struggle with the thought of wearing a dress all day, fear not. There are loads of trousers around at the moment which make ideal wedding outfit attire. These Alexa trousers in daisy print are now £41.40 at Boden (available in sizes 6 to 22).
Or you could opt for culottes – the perfect compromise between skirts and trousers. We love the ASOS premium scuba culotte in garden floral print for £55 (sizes 4 to 18). Those flowers are so real you can almost smell them.
How to stay looking fresh
Outfits done. So just how do you stay looking and feeling fresh all day and night long? Here’s what we do…
- If you’re in heels take foldable flats for late night dancing
- A can of dry shampoo works wonders for pepping up hair
- Take a small travel-sized selection of makeup essentials for any ‘maintenance’ that needs doing during the day
- A handful of sweets can help sustain you if there’s a wait between the service and the meal
- Deodorant – no explanation needed
- Toothbrush and toothpaste – as above.
