Celebrate Christmas Jumper Day in style with our top picks for girls and guys
Just three or four short years ago, finding a jumper to wear for the festivities would’ve been nigh on impossible. Fast forward to 2015 and you are almost seen as square if you don’t have one. The humble sweater has even been given pride of place with its own special day on the calendar – called Christmas Jumper Day, naturally.
You could say that, like most other things, someone somewhere saw a gap in the market and has immortalised the winter wonder forever. However, this is one bandwagon we don’t mind jumping on, because it’s for a great cause – teaming Save the Children with ITV’s Text Santa, along with Macmillan Cancer Support and Make-a-Wish UK.
You can be stylish, sexy, funny, tacky, trendy… take your pick! There is a Christmas jumper to suit everyone and all tastes, so here are our top picks for both the girls and the guys, selected for you by the FSD elves.
First up, the girls…
You can’t beat a play on words – especially at Christmas – like this ‘Merry Chic Mas’ number over at New Look (£18.74).
Alternatively, what about Pouts Not Sprouts at boohoo.com (£15), or the cheeky but cute ‘Jingle My Bells’ at ASOS? There’s currently a limited-time sale at ASOS, with 30% off this particular jumper (making it £19.50).
Our friends at M&S have excelled themselves with choices for the girls this year. We are loving this shaggy jingly reindeer (£24.50, but currently only in XL), and how cute is the mum and baby pale pink polar bears version (£22.75)? Prices are reasonable too.
Over at Next, there are not only jumpers and sweaters but also the most amazing light tees – perfect for anyone who prefers something a little lighter or is celebrating Christmas in warmer climes.
Back to the snugger variety, though, and we heart this Next sequined sweater (£30). Brush the reversible sequins up or down on this jumper to reveal alternative festive messages of XMAS 2015 or NEW YEAR 2016. Two outfit choices in one purchase! View the video of how it works here. Clever, huh?
We love to throw in the ‘if money was no object’ card so how about this beauty – a Bella Freud and Kate Moss sweater from MatchesFashion.com for a cool £365. Designed in collaboration with Save the Children, £100 of each sale goes to the Fashion Saves Lives campaign.
Now the guys…
It’s no longer just the office geek who gets his Christmas on. In fact, it’s absolutely acceptable now that you must have a Christmas jumper for the office party. Even the dads of the nation can unite, smug in the knowledge that they all look fantastic while carving up the turkey at 2pm, ready for the Queen’s Speech!
Here’s our selection for the gents:
- When I Think Of You I Touch My Elf – £20 at Boohoo.com.
- Kiss Me Its Christmas – £15 at ASOS (yes, the slogan says ‘its’ – it should be ‘it’s’, of course).
- Santa pug at ASOS (£28, only left in XXL) – for those who love the trend that won’t go away – and while we are on with trends we couldn’t miss out the Minions; this one is £15 from George at Asda.
- Pigs In A Blanket at Next (£28)… yes we really did say that!
- Moose Head Jumper at M&S (£20.65) – we couldn’t decide whether this was just slightly over-the-top tacky but it’s definitely a dad jumper. It’s the tie that does it!
- Finally, two classic looks. One from Joules – the Joules Festive Stag Jumper (£69.95) – which is exclusive to John Lewis – and a hunky polar bear from Next (£30).
Last but not least, it’s not a sweater but it’s still Christmas and so, so cute: this ‘Big Pud Little Pud’ Christmas t-shirt set for dad and baby from Precious Little Plum at Not on the High Street (£34).
